A start date which was "pencilled in" for work to start on building a roundabout at a notorious Ribble Valley road junction has been put back again.

Work on improvements to the staggered junction of the A59, Pendle Road, and Clitheroe Road, one of the main access points for Clitheroe, had been "pencilled in" to start at the end of July and last for around six months.

However, this start date has now been delayed until Monday, August 6th, with highways bosses citing a slight delay in the contract for the work being finalised.

As was reported in the Clitheroe Advertiser last month, Lancashire County Council had hoped to start work on the new roundabout at the end of June.

While back in March, residents were left confused when the wrong start date of April 2nd and a completion date of October 12th was posted via traveline in error on the county council’s website.

The scheme will see the current staggered junction replaced with a roundabout by Lancashire County Council to improve safety and allow for higher levels of traffic.

The new roundabout is being funded by Taylor Wimpey as part of planning permission for its nearby housing site with access off Pendle Road.
