Stuart and Janet Taylor have never seen any official photographs taken on the day they said 'I do' even though they had employed a photographer.

And while the snapper took plenty of photographs and was paid by Janet's grandfather, the couple never received one picture, despite months of trying to track him down.

Now, as they prepare to celebrate their Golden Wedding in 2021, they are hoping that guests who attended the ceremony and reception may still have pictures from the day.

Stuart said: "We only have four photos from the day that aren't very good and I would love to get some in time for our wedding anniversary in September.

"It would be a lovely surprise for my wife."

The wedding took place on September 11th, 1971, at the now demolished Carr Road Methodist Church in Nelson.

Janet, whose maiden name was Smith, was just 17 and Stuart 20. And the couple held a reception for around 60 guests at the Wagon and Horses in Brierfield.

Stuart, who is now 70 and originally from Brierfield, said: "There were some photographs taken of me holding Janet on the church steps, I would love to see those.

"It's a long shot but maybe someone who was at the wedding may have taken some photographs that they still have."

Stuart first spotted Nelson born Janet at a wedding in December, 1970, but she gave him the brush off!

Stuart said: "I then met her again two months later when she was waitressing at a works dance I was at in the Lord Nelson.

"I asked a female friend of mine to ask her to meet me in the bar once she finished work and after a bit of persuasion from my friend who was a girl she did.

"She had half of Youngers bitter with a dash of lime. That was the start of our many years together."

The day after the wedding the couple moved to Rugby as Stuart, who worked for the former North Calder Water Board, got a new job with the water board there.

The couple, who moved to Blackpool in 2019, went on to have three daughters and one son and now have 13 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
