Ribble Valley charity will offer more family support
Ongoing support from the Big Lottery means a local charity can now extend its support to families with older children.
Home-Start Pendle and Ribble Valley is now able to support all families with a child aged 13 or under. Historically, the charity has supported families from pre-birth to five years old.
The locally-based charity offers a volunteer home visiting service to families in both Pendle and the Ribble Valley. Volunteers with parenting experience themselves are recruited and trained volunteers before visiting families in their own home and offering friendly and confidential support to the whole family.
In addition to volunteer support, Home-Start offers a family group support service and activities encouraging families to work together as a unit for the benefit of their children.
A spokeswoman for Home-Start said: “Home-Start believes that children need a happy and secure childhood and that parents play the key role in giving their children the best start in life.
“Families can be suffering from isolation, lack of confidence, unable to manage the demands of parenting, financial worries and many more. Parents who love their children dearly can still struggle with the everyday pressures they face.
“Our ongoing work in the community, consultation, participation in local forum and national data confirm the issues that we will now be able to address across a wider age range.”
Home-Start Pendle and Ribble Valley is staging an open day at its Clitheroe office – De lacy House on Station Road – on May 22nd. People are welcome to call in for a cuppa and cake anytime between 10am and 1pm to find out more about what the charity can offer families and volunteers.
The spokeswoman added: “Schools are aware of the issues parents face in the home but do not have the capacity to support them and have little knowledge of services available for parent.”
