Police have appealed for dog owners to keep their pets on leads after a number of sheep were chased and killed in the Burnley area.

The distressing incidents happened in the Crown Point and Clow Bridge areas, both popular dog walking spots.

Several reports have been made to police about the problem which is causing distress as lambing season is now in full swing.

The appeal to dog owners was made through social media by Burnley and Padiham Police.

PCSO Mark Hill said: "Can dog owners that walk near farms and livestock please make sure that you have your dog on a lead?

"The Burnley NPT team will be out and about in this location to provide a presence and visibility and to advise dog walkers to keep their animals on a lead."
