The latest exhibition at Clitheroe Castle Museum will showcase paintings of various Lancashire scenes by a local man who is celebrating 50 years as an artist.

Local artist John L. Chapman's art will be on display from Thursday until Monday, May 30th, in the Steward's Gallery.

John's work demonstrates his lifelong fascination with transport history and love of Lancashire scenes. Paintings including cars, trams and buses will be on display, as well as local places of interest and both rural and urban scenes.

The paintings that John has produced so far have been exhibited at W. H. Patterson’s Gallery in Mayfair, the Royal Academy, Harrods Picture Gallery, as well as many other public galleries around the country.

Art lovers can also meet John, and take the opportunity to see him sketching and drawing. John will be available on Saturday, March 17th, from 1-30 to 3pm, on Sunday, March 25th, from 1 to 4pm, and also on Friday, April 6th, from 1 to 3pm in the Steward's Gallery.

County Coun. Peter Buckley, cabinet member for community and cultural services, said: "John's work is certainly worthy of an exhibition, and I'm always pleased to see a local artist given this chance, especially in what is such a landmark year for him.

"John's work is recognised for how it brings the past to life. His art is painstaking in the detail he includes, and with a keen eye for historical accuracy.

"I hope that as many people as possible go along to view his work, or take the opportunity to meet him, and talk about his work."

The Steward's Gallery is open daily from noon to 4pm in March and from 11am to 4pm in April and May.

Admission to the exhibition within the Steward's Gallery part of Clitheroe Castle is free.

Admission to Clitheroe Castle Museum from April 1st is £4-30 for adults and £3-20 for concessions. Children and young people up to the age of 18 years go free. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Limited disabled parking is available at the museum. Parking is also available on car parks in the town centre.
