As World Cup fever grips the nation, The Grand theatre, in conjunction with a local church, is getting into the spirit of things with its own fun competition.

The Grand, which is screening England’s group games in HD on the biggest screen in the town, is also holding a competition jointly organised by St James’ Church giving footy fans the opportunity to recreate a famous World Cup goal.

Videos should be sent to St James’ Church’s Facebook page with the details of the person who has made the video and which goal they are trying to recreate.

The best videos will be shown on The Grand’s big screen at the England v Panama game on Sunday and the England v Belgium game on Thursday, June 28th.

The prize for the best video, alongside having it shown on the big screen, is a World Cup football and a goodie bag.

England kicked off their campaign playing Tunisia on Monday.

Matt Evans at The Grand said: “The Grand is a fun place to watch England in the World Cup with the big screen and stadium atmosphere and football fans of all ages. This competition will allow families to get a bit more involved with the action.”

Tim Lynas, at St James’ Church, added: “St James’ Church are delighted to be working in partnership with The Grand promoting family friendly World Cup matches and offering a fun competition open to all.

“We believe that faith and football can be a winning combination as we look to support our national team this summer. So, why not join us this Sunday morning (in church) at 10-30am as we warm up our singing voices and look forward to the Panama game at 1pm. All welcome.”

Doors open for the screenings half an hour before kick off and a pizza cafe will serve for two hours during each game with pre-ordering advisable. Both seating and standing is available to this event, but to reserve a table for 10 it will cost £10.

Call The Grand’s box office on 01200 421599. It is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 9am to 3pm.
