Burnley care home staff dress up for lockdown

The staff members at McAuley Mount Care Home in Padiham Road have come to work dressed in pyjamas, soap characters and football strips every Friday.

They even dressed up as animals on one occasion, as residents watched a trip to the zoo on television filmed during the lockdown at Chester Zoo, and enjoyed a picnic for tea.

Andrea Porter, from the home, said: "During lockdown we have also had an afternoon on the terraces, with all the staff dressed in football shirts. We watched a replay of a match between Preston and Burnley while enjoying a pie and a pint for lunch.

"We hung up lots of football shirts to make it look like a changing room and held a raffle for a signed football shirt kindly donated by Burnley Football Club, which raised £180. We also had a golden goal to win a signed football (signed by all the staff).

"The idea for the dressing up started when we had a pyjama day and everyone enjoyed it so much we carried on with different themes. It's definitely made the residents smile during what has been a difficult time."
