Ceridwen Chapman attended a meeting of the Thursby Garden Community Action Group and raised concerns about the cyclists, among other things.

“I have come close to being knocked over a number of times as cyclists fly around the corners without warning on pedestrian areas,” said Mrs Chapman.

“Our community policeman Adam Gordon was at the meeting and we have raised it with him.

“I am disabled and it’s not on that youngsters and adults use the footpath for cycling on. There will be an accident and it could be me or it could be someone’s mother or grandmother who is run into and they could be badly hurt.

“There used to be a £20 fine in place for cycling on footpaths but I don’t know whether it’s ever been implemented, it certainly has never stopped them in Duke Bar.

“Cars are also parking on the footpaths blocking them off, especially around the Duke of York pub, which is another issue which is a concern.

“I want to improve the area, it’s all about community and we work hard to try and make it a nice place to live. I go around picking up litter and trying to help to keep the area clean and we want to make sure everyone respects each other.”
