Padiham bypass tragedy – victim named

THE 60-year-old man killed after he was struck by two cars as he walked his dog on Padiham bypass has been named.

Mr Stuart Mather, from Barrowford, was hit by the cars at 5-20 p.m. yesterday at the junction close to Higham Hall Road and Fir Trees Lane.

Mr Mather was crossing the road when he was hit by a Honda Jazz and then by a Vauxhall Astra, both travelling towards Barrowford.

He was taken by air ambulance to Royal Blackburn Hospital but died on arrival. His dog Hamish, a Scottish terrier, also died.

The drivers of the two cars were both uninjured.
