Wonderful tributes to Brian Bird

Since the very sad death of my husband Brian Bird on August 3rd I have received many cards, visits, phone calls, emails and texts of sympathy and comfort from loving friends and relatives and there have been wonderful tributes to him in the local papers.

To cap it all, I turned to Geoff Crambie’s “Nostalgia” page in the Barnoldswick and Earby Times and, to my surprise and tearful joy, there is Brian again - once referred to as the “ubiquitous Brian Bird”, an adjective he had to check in the dictionary!

The photo is one that appears in Brian’s “Life of Brian” which was on display during our moving and loving celebration of exactly that at the Hippodrome Theatre after his ceremony in Skipton.

So many of the societies Brian belonged to and so many friends have contacted me and provided donations for Pendleside Hospice that I would like to thank everyone concerned and hope that by writing this letter I will do my best to include everyone, with my apologies to any I may have inadvertently missed.

All our friends and relations from near and far and those who visited Brian and me over this past sad year and helped to keep me going through the past few weeks.

Brian is now at rest, scattered in the wild flower meadow at Tarn Moor Memorial Woodland on the outskirts of Skipton with a wonderful view all round, including Pendle Hill, with the sound of the Bolton Abbey steam train whistle audible in the distance! His name is to be engraved on a beautiful standing stone in the memorial garden there and should be done by the end of September should anyone wish to go and visit this lovely place.
