Pupils at St Mary’s Primary School, Osbaldeston, had a special treat at their Olympic themed sports day.
One of their teachers, Mr Bob Sutcliffe, started the proceedings by showing the children the Olympic torch he had carried into Appleby.
Mr Sutcliffe was nominated as a torch bearer as two years ago he overcame ill health to follow his dream of becoming a teacher. He urged the children to follow their dreams and remember that they can overcome even major difficulties if they are determined enough.
Headteacher, Mrs Judith Metcalfe, said: “We are all very proud of Mr Sutcliffe and the way he has worked so hard to achieve a long-held ambition.
“He is a very worthy torch bearer and a great example of how, with encouragement and support from those around them, everyone can attain their goals.”
