A CLITHEROE man turned up at his sister-in-law’s house at 11-45 am in a drunken state and told her he had “seen the light”.

Blackburn magistrates heard thet 44-year-old Anthony Haslam proceeded to tell Sally Sharp she was the most beautiful woman in the world and that he wanted to lead her on the “path to enlightenment.”

The court heard Mrs Sharp tried to call Haslam’s wife and his father, but eventually called the police.

Haslam, of Howe Croft, Clitheroe, admitted a breach of the peace. He was bound over to keep the peace for 12 months in the sum of £100.

Mr Jonathan Taylor (defending) said his client had not intended to cause any distress.

“He was in drink and with hindsight accepts the incident must have been unpleasant for his sister-in-law,” he added.
