Nando’s famous peri-peri chicken will not be winging its way to Burnley – at least not this year.
A website this week claimed plans had been hatched to open one of the South African eateries in the Hammerton Street building vacated by Walkabout.
However, a spokesman for the popular restaurant chain told the Burnley Express no such plans were currently in place.
The “news”, posted on a crudely designed website, also running a story about Tim Cahill signing for Burnley, spread like wildfire across social media yesterday.
It is not the first time an attempt has been made to dupe Burnley food lovers into believing a Nando’s was landing in town.
An official-looking Facebook page popped up in 2013 claiming a new outlet was to open in Trafalgar Street. But bosses quickly moved to scotch those rumours then as well, saying they had not yet found a suitable site for the restaurant.
