After the excitement of the 2012 tour, when British cycling achieved its big dream of seeing a UK rider standing on the podium in the yellow jersey, the 2013 race looks set to be just as exciting, enthralling and entertaining.
Last year Clitheroe cycle shop The Green Jersey was joined by Sky Sports News on the last day of the tour, as Bradley Wiggins fans gathered at the Taylor Street shop to watch the final stage on the big screen. The celebrations were helped along with complimentary French cheese and wine!
To help bring the atmosphere of the tour to Clitheroe again, The Green Jersey has a hectic itinerary of events to celebrate the most gruelling cycling event of the year. Here’s what you can expect:
l Spot Bradley’s Pinarello. Every day from July 5th to 20th, Bradleys Pinarello (pictured above, and which he is no longer riding this year!) will be displayed within a one mile radius of The Green Jersey Shop, in a different place every day.
If you spot it, keep a note of where and when you saw it. At the end of the tour drop your list of “spots” at The Green Jersey, and the winner – the person with the biggest and most accurate number of sightings – will receive a goodie bag.
Closing date for this competition is July 26th.
l Charity Bike Wash. On Saturdays July 6th and 13th there will be a charity bike wash supported by local company Brite Ride.
For just £5 per bike, “iron horses” will be lovingly washed with a brand new bike wash solution. All the money will be donated to the North West Air Ambulance Service.
l Le Tour Treasure Hunt. On the weekends of July 6th and 13th there will be a family friendly and adult treasure hunt on bikes. Start at The Green Jersey any time you wish, and pick up your first clue.
l Coffee & Le Tour – simply drop in for a brew and to enjoy the racing on TV.
l Check the website (www.thegreenjersey.co.uk) as the tour progresses there will be additional activities organised.
