Local charity and rescue service Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue Team have been chosen as winners in the Yorkshire Building Society’s 150th birthday celebrations cash giveaway.

The rescue team, based in Lancashire, was one of 15 worthy causes chosen by members of the public to receive a £10,000 cash donation.

RPMRT plan to use the money to upgrade medical treatment equipment including splints, medical bags, stretchers and medicines to aid with their searches and the immediate treatment of missing or injured people.

RPMRT’s community fundraiser Mark Wakeman said: “We are thrilled that our project has been chosen to be funded as part of the Yorkshire Building Society’s Lasting Legacy Fund. We can’t wait to get started and make a real difference to our community.”

Yorkshire Building Society’s Corporate Responsibilty Manager Pauline Giroux commented: “We are proud to commemorate our milestone anniversary by helping charities make a positive difference in their communities. We are delighted to be able to support Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue’s project and we are looking forward to seeing the benefits that it will bring.

“To be chosen from over 600 charity projects shows that their work has really resonated with the public and will deliver a tangible benefit to the local community.”
