teenage mini-stock car driver Hazel Stansfield, from Chaigley, was flown by air ambulance to hospital after a shunt during a junior race at Barford Raceway, Barnard Castle, Co Durham.

Firefighters cut open her Mini-based racer to free her after she said her neck hurt.

Hazel (15) was kept overnight for observation at James Cook Hospital, Middlesbrough, and allowed home.

Dad Brent said: “She’s already keen to get her car fixed and get racing again.”
