Villagers are preparing for thnext month’s Mellor Scarecrow Festival.
Following on from the success of last year’s event, when over 40 fantastic scarecrows ranging from “Sir Bradley Twiggings” to Humpty Dumpty were on display all over the village, Mellor Connections is holding another Scarecrow event on July 16th and 17th.
Judges and visitors last year were amazed at the variety of scarecrows on display across the three categories – Under-12, Over-12 and local shop/businesses. They are hoping for even better displays this year as Mellor residents let their imaginations run riot. Visitors will also get the chance to nominate their favourite.
As well as the scarecrows there are a number of events planned based in and around the village hall including a barbecue, cafe/bar, performances by Balderstone Brass Band and the Mellor Brook Ukelele Group and a visit from the Thwaite’s Shire Horses.
Last year’s event raised nearly £1,500 for charity and the organisers are hoping, with your support, to better that this year.
