Coronation Street actor Liam Bairstow was welcomed by the Mayor and Mayoress of the Ribble Valley, Coun. Joyce Holgate and Debra Holgate, to judge the children’s fancy dress competition at a countryside event at Mrs Dowsons Farm in Clayton-le-Dale on Sunday.
Liam is the first actor with Down’s syndrome to land a lead role in the soap and the event raised funds for local group, Adam’s Activity Ark and Mencap.
Coun. Holgate said: “Liam is such a nice lad and it was a pleasure to welcome him to Mrs Dowsons. He is a real inspiration and I hope that his career goes from strength to strength.”
Admission into Mrs Dowsons was free for the event and there were various craft stalls, children’s games, face painting, as well as a treasure hunt on offer.
Ellen Pope, training manager at Adam’s Activity Ark, said members of the group had been over the moon to welcome Liam to the event.
She also expressed thanks to Eric and Amanda Dowson for allowing them to hold the event on the farm and to local restaurants, pubs, shops and other businesses for supporting the group’s efforts.
