The joint founder member and chairman of Langho in Bloom stepped over the finishing line in Blackpool in two hours and six minutes.

Despite finding the challenge tough and struggling with an injury towards the end, she found the experience thoroughly rewarding.

She commented: “The spectators and other runners were so supportive. Everyone just seemed to keep each other going from giving a pat on the back to sharing jelly babies for energy. The weather conditions were perfect and the sun even made an appearance.”

Kate, a pharmacy technician, raised a total of £1,031 - £300 has been donated to Langho in Bloom, while she has handed over £731 to the East Lancashire Hospice in memory of her uncle Steven Richardson, who lost his battle to cancer in 2016.

Fundraising coordinator for the hospice, Catherine Leech, said: “Congratulations to Kate on her wonderful achievement and thank you for making the hospice her chosen charity.”

When asked if she would consider running a full maraton, mother-of-one Kate replied: “I’m not sure about that, but I’m always up for a challenge so watch this space!”

As the spring/summer season is fast approaching, funds are needed to refill the planters and hanging baskets in Langho that the team have added to the village over the past two years.

Kate, who has a four-year-old son called James, would like to thank everyone who has sponsored her and has found the response she received overwhelming. She added: “I was blown away by the generosity of people.

“Plants don’t come cheap and this year we need to raise all the funds we can to make a spectacular summer display.

“Friends, family, customers of Langho Pharmacy and complete strangers have been so kind. I am thrilled to have been able to raise so much for two great causes.”
