People living in and around Gisburn, Sawley, Chipping and Newton-in-Bowland suffered power cuts after high winds and heavy rain caused damage to overhead lines overnight.

Electricity North West said power supplies had been restored to many customers and it was working hard to reconnect those homes still without electricity. A spokesman said that all affected customers should have their power back on by this evening.

Meanwhile, wintry showers, possibly snow on high ground, is predicted for later today. The worst of the high winds should be over but the wind could still be strong in exposed areas and it will start to feel significantly colder.
