A fundraising group based in Skipton will be hosting their annual Festival of Fun – Relay For Life in aid of Cancer Research UK in Gisburn.
The Petal Committee, who organise a variety of events in aid of Cancer Research UK, are welcoming people to join them at Demesne Farm for a celebration of life and hope that brings the community together as one to show that united we are stronger than cancer.
The festival, which is being held on Saturday September 5th from 2 pm through to Sunday September 6th, will celebrate cancer survivors, remember those lost and raise vital funds for Cancer Research UK’s life-saving work.
The event is officially being opened by the High Sheriff of Lancashire and will see teams of people walk through the night as part of the Relay For Life portfolio, which is a Cancer Research UK event organised by volunteers.
Spectators will see team members take turns to walk around the track while everyone else enjoys a wide range of activities, entertainment and food that will be on offer across the weekend. The event will take place for 24 hours and team members who are not on the track will take turns to rest, eat and sleep in their tents.
The event welcomes everyone whether you would like to enter a team or join in the activity over the weekend. Members of the public are welcome on Sunday between 10 am – 2 pm where a small suggested donation is requested on the gate.
Karen Weaving, secretary of the Petal Committee, said: “The Festival of Fun is a fantastic family event and we have an amazing line up of entertainment. I welcome everyone to come along to support us in trying to raise as much money as possible for a cause that continues to make a difference.”
The committee raise funds to support research into Neuroblastoma and on Saturday a speaker from the Cancer Research UK’s Leeds Institute will be coming along to share progress made so far and future plans for research into children’s cancers.
Jenny Murgatroyd, senior local fundraising manager at Cancer Research UK said she is thrilled that the festival has returned to Gisburn to support the charity.
She added: “Funds raised through supporters like Petal and their supporters are crucial to the work of doctors, nurses and scientists who work day and night to fight cancer on all fronts.”
