Clitheroe’s Town Mayor likes to lead by example – especially if it means having to work up a sweat.
If you think all Mayors are portly, middle-aged chaps who fall asleep during council meetings, think again!
Coun. Kevin Horkin goes to a local gym two or three times a week as part of his regular fitness regime. He also enjoys a healthy diet, rarely drinks alcohol and has never smoked.
“Over the next year I will be busy attending lots of public engagements when I will no doubt be faced with lots of temptations in terms of food and drink,” said Coun. Horkin. “However I will continue to eat and drink sensibly and exercise regularly so the people of Clitheroe know their Town Mayor really is fit for purpose.”
Personal Trainer Ross Preston, who runs a private gym in Clitheroe’s Swan Courtyard, says the 51 year-old Town Mayor is in great shape for his age.
“I’ve certainly never had a Mayor as a client before. If they are supposed to be chubby chaps in suits then Kevin is very different. His fitness is well above average for his age and he is working hard on a personal programme I have designed for him – a combination of cardio-based fitness and resistance work.”
He may lead a very healthy lifestyle but the Town Mayor admits he is no angel.
“We all have our weaknesses and I’m no different. I really do struggle to resist a fresh cream cake!”
