A YOUNG girl’s campaign to raise £5,000 for charity in memory of her mum was launched at the weekend.
Bethany Rose, whose mother Katy Rose lost her battle with breast cancer on April 1st aged 38, launched the Candle for Katy campaign on Saturday.
The Brookside Primary School pupil decided to raise funds for the charity Breast Cancer Care to help other families who have loved ones with the disease.
On hearing about Bethany’s plans, Cheryl Hook, who owns Melt at Backridge Farm, Twitter Lane, Waddington, offered to make one of her hand-made fine fragranced candles in memory of Katy, who would have celebrated her 39th birthday on Saturday.
In total, 44 of Katy’s candles were sold during the launch afternoon at Melt and the shop was packed with people who had come along to show their support.
Bethany will also undertake a five kilometre sponsored walk in memory of Katy on Mother’s Day.
