Clitheroe is to get another 130 hew homes.
The development at Henthorn Road is to include a mix of two and four bedroomed properties and 12 of these include two bed apartments.
Around 40 of the proposed properties will meet Ribble Valley Council’s objective of providing on-site affordable housing. The scheme was given the go ahead initially two years ago and since then the final details have been thrashed out between the developer and those interested in the scheme.
Nearby residents had objected to the new homes on a variety of grounds including a potential loss of privacy and also the fact that many of the existing homes in adjacent Kenilworth Drive would directly face the gable ends of the new homes and this would result in an overbearing impact and loss of light.
Concerns were also expressed about the issue of speeding in Henthorn Road and town councillors have asked for a 20mph condition to be imposed on delivery drivers.
The developer, Story Homes, has agreed to incorporate bungalows into the scheme to improve the visual appearance of the site.
A “central green’’ area will also be created as a public open space within the development with significant landscaping and hedgerow planting. The area will be designed to give pedestrians equal priority to vehicles which act as a traffic calming measure. Other measures in place to improve the appearance of the site include re-locating front parking plots to rear courtyards to minimise the dominance of cars on the street and re-arranging some of th plots to give more distance between the properties. There will also be landscaping and a shared pedestrian/cycle footway. Access to the homes will be by single road and the estate will be made up of courtyards and cul-de-sacs.
