Fundrun balloon release

The organisers of the Burnley and Pendle Fundrun 2016, are arranging a balloon launch at the start of the 5k run round Towneley Park to celebrate the lives of those who have been diagnosed in the past or who are living with cancer right now.

Andy Voss from CARES said: “There can be no greater demonstration of all the successes that we are making in the prevention and cure of cancer than seeing local people who are living with cancer taking part in an occasion like the Fundrun.

“With cancer now directly affecting 50% of the population during their lifetime, it is easy to think that we are not making progress in beating this terminal illness, but that is not the case.

“There are more and more people who are being diagnosed with cancer, that are being treated and are going to run full lives. Often, their lives can be enhanced following such a diagnosis as they re-evaluate their priorities and time.

“We are having the balloon launch not only to celebrate the lives of cancer survivors, but also to provide hope for those who may be diagnosed in the future.

“While it is understandable that people fear the very worst when they have a cancer diagnosis, there are many many cases where that need not be the case and we want the balloon launch to be living proof of this.

“While we recognise that people deal with cancer in many different ways, we would like as many people as possible to take part in the balloon release.”

The Fundrun is being organised by CARES, a charity established for the early assessment and diagnosis of cancer for local people and Colne and West Craven Fundraisers for Cancer Research UK who fund crucial cancer research in the North West.

The organisers are now reaching out to all cancer survivors to come and join the event on Sunday, September 18th, to help provide hope and inspiration to all the fundraisers and runners on the day, but also to help reduce the anxiety and fear for others that may one day be diagnosed.

Please get in touch with event organiser from Cares, Andy Voss on [email protected] or call 07969 609065 for more information or to reserve a balloon.
