Memories flowed when family and friends celebrated the 90th birthday of Mrs Joyce Lilburn, a former Mayor of Ribble Valley.
Mrs Lilburn, who lives at Bowland-by-Bowland, has been involved in village life – especially St Peter and St Paul’s church and the village’s Mothers’ Union – since moving from the Midlands in 1970 with her late husband Chris, a manager with the Joseph Lucas company. She was elected to Ribble valley Borough Council and was Mayor in 1985-86. A mother of two daughters and grandmother of three, Mrs Lilburn celebrated with a Saturday family meal at Northcote Manor, a surprise party after Sunday service at the church when the congregation sang “Happy Birthday”, and a get-together with Mothers’ Union friends at the village Post Office.
Her family made a ‘memories’ cake covered in pictures of her enjoying cycling and ballroom dancing in her younger days.
