Former Clitheroe accountant Max dies aged 72

A retired Clitheroe accountant and businessman, Mr George Maxwell Edmondson, has died after a long illness aged 72.

Mr Edmondson, known as Max, was born in Great Harwood, brought up at Whalley, and educated at Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School, Blackburn, before joining his father Mr George Edmondson at Varley Edmondson accountants, Wellgate, Clitheroe.

He later took over Dootson’s Peugeot garage at Low Moor before retiring and moving ten years ago to Warrington, where he died at home.

Mr Edmondson was a member of Clitheroe Conservative Club a had been chairman of the Young Conservatives in the 1960s.

He was also a founder member and captainf Stonyhurst Park Golf Club and a member of Clitheroe Golf Club.

He leaves a wife Helen and son Max, and daughters Samantha, Zoe and Amy from his first marriage to Vicky.
