Firefighters were called out to plumes of smoke coming from Ribble Valley moorland.

Reports of the moorland fire at Slaidburn were made to firefighters at around 3 pm yesterday (Wednesday).

The caller phoned from Gisburn Forest visitor centre to report a plume of smoke on fells two to three miles away. However, when firefighters went to investigate, they established that the fire was intentional and controlled burning by the landowner as part of fell maintenance and it was therefore not extinguished.
