Firefighter spent two hours putting a blaze out at Hanson Cement in Clitheroe last night (Thursday).

Two fire engines were called to the plant in West Bradford Road after a fire started in a roller mill which is around 30 metres high.

Firefighters believe the blaze was caused after a halogen lamp blew over and set scaffolding planks alight at the plant which is currently closed while maintenance work is carried out.

Clitheroe Fire Station Watch Manager Dave McGrath said: “We had to gain access to the mill to put the flames out. We stayed for two hours and returned this morning to make sure the site was safe.’’
