Felt making classes in Whalley

WIAt the meeting of Whalley with Mitton WI, in Whalley Abbey, Mrs Marjorie Mitchell wished all members past and present a happy new year. Guest speaker Mrs Rita Parks, of Blackburn, gave a humorous talk entitled "The other side of the letterbox".

Names were taken for the spring council meeting, at Southport on March 16th. The cost of 12 plus coach fare is to be paid at next month's meeting.

Teams for the fun quiz on January 31st were finalised. A trip to Chetham's School of Music, in Manchester, was suggested and Pat will take names next month and give details.

Among the LFWI events are sketching at Samlesbury Hall, beginners beading and a forest adventure in Cumbria.

The competition had many entries, with five winners chosen. They were Virginia Salmon, Olwyn Laycock, Margaret Manning, Freda Haynes and Astrea Harrison.

The next meeting on Wednesday, February 2nd is on felt making.

RotasThose who help with the children's liturgy should collect a copy of the rota from the back of English Martyrs' RC Church, Whalley.

Until younger children feel confident, their parents or carers are welcome to stay with them in The Presbytery.

Plastic containers from Christmas wreaths and bulb bowls, which can be used again, may be left in a box at the back of the church.

The Thursday Group will resume on January 27th between 1 and 3 p.m. and new members are welcome.
