Extreme weather puts off Martin Top carol singers

Carol singingDue to the extreme cold, snow and icy conditions the group of church members from Salem Congregational Chapel, Martin Top, did not tour the area singing carols as usual.

Instead they were invited to the home of Mr Miles Taylor, at Newby. Mr Taylor, with members of his family, invited friends and neighbours into his home for the evening. Everyone was welcomed by a log fire and supper.

Following supper, a variety of Christmas carols was sung by all. A collection from those gathered for the work of Barnardo's raised 70.50. Thanks were extended to Mr Taylor and his family for their hospitality.

There was a short service on Christmas Day in Salem Congregational Chapel, Martin Top, led by Mr Herbert Moorhouse.

On Boxing Day Mr Robert Taylor led the service and Mrs Ethel Hartley was organist on both occasions.
