ONE of the Ribble Valley’s most popular pre-schools has scored “outstanding” in every aspect of its provision in the most recent report carried out by Ofsted.
The inspection found Downham Pre-School’s overall effectiveness in early years provision, its leadership and management, the quality of provision in the Early Years Foundation Stage and outcomes for children were all of the very highest standard expected.
Particularly singled out for praise were the experienced staff, the individual attention given to children and links with parents and activities happening in the community, as well as the exceptional opportunities the children are gaining from an active outdoor learning experience.
The vibrant and stimulating atmosphere, flourishing education and rapid learning progress created as a result were all praised highly by the inspection team.
In their conclusion, the Inspectors commented: “Children thrive in the environment as they are cared for by attentive, experienced staff who know them exceedingly well.
“An excellent balance of adult-led and child-initiated activities results in children being competent learners, with a high degree of self-confidence they feel valued, safe and happy.
“All staff demonstrate high aspirations for continuous quality of care, resulting in an excellent impact on the outcomes for children,” the report said.
Delighted with the report, Susan Carter, Pre-school Manager, paid tribute to the hard work and dedication of her staff. She said: “The inspectors arrived unannounced just as we were all getting ready for our festive activities – so Father Christmas had a bit of last-minute competition!
“It’s a fantastic credit to the staff’s dedication and hard work to achieve maximum scores across the board in what is quite a rigorous assessment process and, as a result, we are all starting the New Year with an extra spring in our step”.
