Budding journalists from Stonyhurst College were among those invited to a News Academy conference in London organised by News UK, publishers of The Times and The Sun.

Shadow Education Secretary Tristram Hunt (pictured right) opened the conference, and the 250 16-18 year olds got the chance to speak with leading journalists from News UK’s publications.

There was a debate on citizenship journalism, networking opportunities, and a hands-on mock press conference allowing students to try out their journalistic skills.

Students are also being offered the opportunity to apply for the News Academy Summer School at News UK HQ in London, where they will create and publish their own newspaper under the guidance of leading journalists. Entries open on February 26th. For information visit news.co.uk/academy
