Nelson and Colne College Sixth Form has welcomed new Assistant Principal Paul Britton to the Senior Management Team with overall responsibility for A-Level provision.
Paul joins the college at a time of great achievement as, in latest Government data from the schools and colleges’ performance tables, the college was highlighted as the best in East Lancashire and the fourth highest performing college in the whole country for A Level grades. The success follows data in 2013 which named the college’s students as having the highest A Level Value Added scores nationwide.
Paul has joined the college from York College, bringing a wealth of experience, alongside enthusiasm and commitment to student success and fulfilment.
He said: “After studying philosophy, politics and economics at the University of Oxford, I have taught and led teams in a range of further education and sixth form colleges from Exeter to Hampshire to York. I am extremely excited about working at Nelson and Colne College; a place that manages to combine a real family feeling with truly outstanding achievements by our students. I have already found an exceptionally able and committed team of staff and look forward to spreading the word about the best 16-18 education in the region.
“I am especially passionate about developing our A-Level provision to ensure the best preparation for those students wanting to pursue an academic path. I have a particular interest in developing the higher level thinking skills and undergraduate style project work that ensure Nelson and Colne students will be highly sought after by the most prestigious of universities!
