FORMER footballer and England manager Kevin Keegan visited Ribble Valley’s Stonyhurst College.

He talked to a large audienc about his time at Liverpool, Hamburg, Newcastle and various other clubs. A member of the organisation, Christian’s in Sport, he also talked about his faith and how it had sustained him.

Mr Keegan described his first steps into professional football, how he had been told he was not good enough to join his local boys’ team! This made him determined to work harder and get better so that he could achieve his footballing dreams.

“Nobody will give you something for nothing,” Kevin said, “you have to work harder than everybody else to make sure you get what you want.”

He was happy to pose for lots of photos and signed many autographs on paper, football shirts, school ties and even a pupil’s arm. His message – always try to do your very utmost in every situation – was inspiring, and mirrors the Stonyhurst motto “Quant Je Puis” which means “all that I can”.
