Pupils at a Clitheroe primary school said goodbye and thank you to a man associated with a yellow jacket and a lollipop!

Les Baker, otherwise known as “Les the Lollipop Man”, is hanging up his lollipop as he retires after spending eight years helping children and parents cross safely over Chatburn Road.

Children from Pendle Primary School made a specially-shaped thank you card which they presented to Les, who celebrated his 70th birthday the same week.

Alison Callon, headteacher of the school based in Princess Avenue, said: “Les has ensured the safety of hundreds of children over the years as they have crossed the very busy main road.

“We wish him a long, happy and healthy retirement.”
