A “CHOCOLATE Bingo” fund-raiser orgaised by the Friends of Whalley School proved a sweet success.

More than a hundred children, parents and relatives packed into the school hall to play Bingo hosted by headteacher Dr Steve Austin, who became a Bingo Caller for the night! Prizes of chocolate hampers had been previously donated by parents as payment for non-uniform day the week before. The players also took part in a chocolate quiz and refreshments were available.

The night was a huge success and more than £255 was raised for the village primary school. The Friends of Whalley School are a fund-raising charity who regularly hold events to raise money for the school, which is then used to purchase books, computers and any equipment required. The Friends are made up of parents and staff who voluntarily give their time to organise these fund-raising events.

The next one takes place on October 12th and is a Sparkling Wine and Champagne tasting evening, named “Fizz Night”, hosted by Whalley Wine Shop and for which tickets are almost sold out. The Friends are also holding a School Ball at The Eagle at Barrow shortly and will be holding in events on Whalley Pickwick night.
