George Cowperthwaite, a sixth-form student at Stonyhurst College, has excelled in two Cambridge University competitions.

High marks in the Cambridge Physics and Chemistry Challenge competitions placed him in the top 40 of entrants nationally.

As a result of his success, Cambridge invited George, from Clitheroe, to attend three-day courses at the university in both physics and chemistry.

George, who is in his final year at Stonyhurst, said: “The courses were great. I attended undergraduate lectures and advanced practical sessions. I would recommend the Cambridge competitions to other students as they give you extra experience in your A level studies.”

Not only is George a very promising young scientist, he is also a talented mathematician, and hopes to read Mathematics at Cambridge.
