Downham hostelry the Assheton Arms has beaten off stiff competition to win the best food pub category for the North-West region in the 2013 BT Sport Great British Pub Awards.

Organised by leading pub industry magazine the Publican’s Morning Advertiser, the awards recognise pubs with a quality food offering and whose food sales are the core part of their business success.

The publication’s editor, Rob Willock, said: “The Assheton Arms is a seafood driven gastro-pub that delivers a high level of honest high quality food, cooked and presented naturally, the way it should be, using produce from local suppliers who share the owner’s passion. Its seasonally changing menu and daily changing specials offer a superb choice for diners. It is a very worth winner of this award.”

Run by licensee and managing director Joycelyn Neve, the Assheton Arms will now go head to head with five other regional winners for the UK title and also have the opportunity to compete for the overall title of Great British Pub of the Year 2013 at the BT Sport Great British Pub Awards 2013 to be held at the Hilton Hotel, London on Thursday September 12th.
