DOWNHAM: Children’s art competition

Exhibition - An Aladdin’s Cave of delights greeted visitors to Downham WI’s Hobbies Exhibition. Even members were astounded at the variety of crafts enjoyed by their WI fellows. Painting, drawing, cross-stitch, willow-weaving, woodcarving, toy making, photography, miniatures and doll’s house furniture were a few of the crafts displayed. Visitors also enjoyed tea, home-made biscuits and cream scones and a film of local villages shown by Anne Sharp.

At the end of the afternoon, Joyce Plumridge was thanked for masterminding the event.

Centenary - A children’s art competition is open to all resident children and pre-school pupils, all entries will be on show at the flower show on July 30th. There are four age groups, pre-school, 7 and under, 12 and under, 18 and under. Entries in any medium should have one of the following titles “Alleluia”, “A Century of Worship”, “Seen At St Leonard’s”, to be brought to church between 5 and 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 28th.

On Whitsunday there will be a family service with a baptism, everyone welcome at 11 a.m.
