Walk off some of that Christmas indulgence and have a great day out at the same time at the 21st annual Whalley Walk and ridiculous hat competition event.
The six-mile circular walk is being staged on Monday December 28th setting off from Whalley bus station at 10-15 am.
Ideal for youngsters with an award for the most ridiculous hat, the event has become a festive staple in Whalley’s Christmas calendar.
Whalley resident Ivan Hargreaves, one of the event’s organisers, said: “This event is now a local tradition.
“Many local families with children take part, and most spend an hour or two relaxing in the cafes and pubs in Whalley after the event.
“As always, there is a prize for the person wearing the most ridiculous hat.”
Walkers should meet at Whalley bus station at 10-15 am, the “very serious ridiculous hat judging” will take place at 10-25 am before the walk starts at 10-30 am.
The walk will follow a route via Whalley golf course, Portfield, Read Old Bridge and Read Park.
At approximately 12 noon the walkers will regroup at the Game Cock Inn where there will be refreshments available.
Then at 12-30 pm ish they will depart for Whalley following a route via Whalley Nab arriving back in Whalley at around 1-30 pm where they will be welcome to relax, eat and drink in one of the village’s many pubs and cafes.
Everybody is welcome to take part, although walkers are asked to keep their dogs under control.
