She also said the former St John Fisher RC High School pupil was an extremely private person and described how the 25-year-old’s untimely death had devastated his close-knit family.

Tina, 31, said: “He was a loving, caring, generous person who was always happy and had a smile on his face.

“He was loved by everybody who he met and he will be sadly missed by his parents, his brother, by myself and my daughter Ella, because he was a dad to her.

“It has definitely been a massive shock to all of us. It’s just a tragedy. I just take comfort from all the happy memories we do have together.

“He brightened up everybody’s day and he was very popular and well-liked. In the short time I knew him we experienced a lot together.

“We had so much more planned to look forward to and were always planning the next steps, the next adventures. A week didn’t go by when we weren’t busy doing things.

“We made the most of our time together. Life is too short not to be having fun and that’s definitely how we lived.”

Family would not be drawn on the circumstances of the incident nor where Joseph had been that day.
