Tributes have been paid to a former Labour councillor for Ribble Valley Borough Council.

Ron Pickup, who was the Labour councillor for the St James’ ward from 1988 to 1991, died earlier this month aged 83.

Mr Pickup was elected during a by-election and was one of four Labour councillors who represented local people on the council at that time.

He had previously served as an accountant and worked as the chief auditor at the borough council. He had also been Clitheroe Borough Council treasurer prior to Local Government reorganisation in 1974.

Mr Pickup’s funeral takes place at St Mary’s and St Anselm RC Church, Whitworth, at 10 am on Thursday, followed by a committal at Rochdale Crematorium at 11-50 am.

Mr Pickup, who also served as a Labour county councillor, leaves children Allan, Leslie and Christine, step-children BBC radio DJs Andy and Liz Kerhsaw, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
