A trip to the highest Youth Hostelling Association’s bunk barn in the country was the destination for Whalley Cubs. They headed for Skiddaw House in Bassenthwaite where they got the chance to explore a nuclear bunker as part of the Cubs 100 adventure. At 470km above sea level, the cubs enjoyed the spectacular scenery on the way up there but found the atmospheric hall a bit spooky.
After spending the night at the hall near the Lake District’s Keswick they visited the ancient stone circle at Castle Rigg before a spot of indoor caving. The nuclear bunker tour was a surprise for the cubs who got the chance to see it as it is opened only twice a year to give people a rare glimpse.
