Detectives investigating a serious assault in Lancashire have charged a man.

Hassan Khan, 19, of Lynwood Road, Blackburn, has today been charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent.

He has been remanded to appear at Blackburn Magistrates' Court on Monday (April 23).

A second man, aged 19 and from Blackburn, has been bailed by police to May 14.

The charge comes after a police officer was flagged down at around 12:55pm last Thursday (April 19) following a 21-year-old man being found unconscious on Devonport Road close to Shaw Street in Blackburn.

Detectives believe the victim was assaulted after walking towards two men on Devonport Road.

He was taken to Royal Preston Hospital for treatment and is currently in a critical condition having suffered head injuries and a collapsed lung.
