POLICE are appealing for information after a callous burglary in Sabden in which a vulnerable and elderly woman was targeted.

The offence took place at around 1-10 p.m. on Tuesday, November 29th, close to the centre of the village. Offenders posing as workmen tricked their way into the partially-sighted woman’s home and stole cash.

Following inquiries in the area, police are keen to trace a black Saab four-door saloon car and speak to four men seen with it. The car was seen parked opposite Sabden Primary School around the time of the offence and shortly afterwards at the bottom of Wesley Street.

The four men seen with the car are described as:

l a white male in his late 20s, bald head, slim, about 5ft 9in. tall

l a white male in his late 20s, chubby, about 5ft 6in. or 5ft 7in. tall, wearing jeans and a scruffy “combat green” coloured fleece. This man had a full head of hair, collar length but gelled and scraped back.

l the car driver, a white male, balding but with slight ginger colouring, only seen from the chest upwards as he was sitting in the car.

l a fourth white male, the front seat passenger, but with no further description.

A spokesman for Clitheroe CID described it as a despicable offence in which predatory offenders had deliberately targeted a vulnerable victim. He also warned people to be very wary of any unsolicited callers at their door.

Anyone with information about the offence, the car or the four men is urged to call Lancashire Police on 0845 1253545 quoting Log reference number LC-20111129-0592.
