Police advise motorcyclists to wear protective gear when outdoors
Motorcyclist and moped riders are being urged to stay safe in this heatwave by wearing appropriate clothing.
PC Nigel Keates, of Lancashire Police, said: "We all like to keep cool in this weather. Please, if you are riding out wear appropriate clothing.
"Bikers wear leathers for a reason.. If you've never had gravel rash or had your skin taken to the bone by tarmac then riding in a t-shirt and shorts is a sure fire way to experience it. Please Google 'gravel rash' ....it's not a pretty sight and is agonisingly painful.
"You may not be riding like a buffoon, but the person that knocks you off your bike might be. Protect yourself."
