Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal head-on crash in Wilpshire on Sunday.

Two cars collided at around 10-30 p.m. on Whalley New Road close to the Bull’s Head pub.

The driver of a Vauxhall Corsa, Mr Robert Carson (35), from Blackburn, was cut free by firefighters and died shortly after arriving at the Royal Blackburn Hospital.

The driver of a Ford Focus, a 24-year-old man from Rossendale, was also taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital and transferred to the Royal Preston Hospital, where his condition was described as critical.

The road was closed for four hours to allow accident investigators to carry out their work and an investigation has been launched to find out what happened.

Sergeant Mick Young, from the Road Policing Unit, said: “I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed the incident to come forward and contact the police.”

Anyone with information should ring 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
