A man stole his ex-wife’s bank card because he claimed she owed him money from when he paid a gas bill for her.

Blackburn magistrates heard that shortly after leaving her Whalley home Stuart Ian Gant was caught on CCTV withdrawing cash from a hole in the wall in the village.

Gant (53), of Glebe Street, Great Harwood, pleaded guilty to theft of the card belonging to Sandra Gant, fraudulent use of the card and theft of £250. He was given a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered to pay £250 compensation.

Liz Parker (defending) said the offences had been Gant’s way of recovering the debt he believed she owed him.
