Newly ordained priest the Rev. Andrew Whitehead, conducted his first marriage ceremony of a couple who have fallen in love with each other – and the town of Clitheroe.
Teachers Leon Walmsley (33) and Kate Flanagan (27), who now live on Lowergate, tied the knot at Clitheroe Parish Church which they both attend and where Mr Whitehead is curate.
Aiming to keep the wedding as local as possible, during the ceremony there was music from Clitheroe Pop Choir and the couple went out of their way to use local venues and suppliers. The reception was held at Clitheroe Castle’s The Atrium, followed by a tea party in the church gardens organised by Megabites of Cumbria, Moor Lane, Clitheroe.
The flowers were by Voilà, Moor Lane, Clitheroe, and the wedding cake was made of cheese by Gradwell Butchers, Clitheroe Market. Their 140 guests booked out The Inn at the Station, The Old Post House and York House B & B.
As Leon is an English teacher, all the wedding invites and the order of service were designed as the cover of Penguin Classic books and the tables named after a different author.
